I’m slowly warming up to the oversized tailoring trend. I was more drawn to this jacket than other relaxed-fit blazers because of the waist tie. A main goal of suiting is to create the coveted upside-down triangle shape, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, and I never really liked oversized tailoring because it completely disregarded that purpose. However, this jacket with its waist ties still maintains the desired shape, while also leaning into the relaxed-fit trend. There are multiple ways to wear this jacket: completely undone, with the tie done in the back, or tied in the front. I prefer either tied in the back or in the front. Leaving it completely open makes me lose my waist, and therefore I don’t think it looks very good.

i.e., not the move

This is something new for me. I like the double-breasted wrap front here, and the lace fabric incorporates some additional detail. Since it’s a bodysuit, it will stay tucked in and I won’t have to worry about flashing anyone. Yes, it’s a much more feminine piece than everything else I typically showcase, but (1) I’m a woman, and (2) who cares. I figured I’d style it like the model in the product picture.
I’m always on the hunt for a good black trouser with an interesting detail, so I bought these because of the pleats. ASOS considers the trousers a “tapered” fit, as opposed to my preferred skinny fit, and I haven’t decided if I like it or not. As the name might imply, the trousers are looser at the top and begin to taper down at the knee to a slimmer leg opening. I would not consider these to be wide-leg trousers by any means, but they are definitely wider/looser than any other black trousers in my rotation.
